In Western Australia, entry to Gifted and Talented (GATE) secondary programs in public schools is through the Academic Selective Entrance Test (ASET), which students sit in Year 6 for entry to Year 7. It assesses reading comprehension, communicating ideas in writing, quantitative reasoning and abstract reasoning.
WA students in Years 4 to 6 aiming for a Gifted and Talented academic program. Starting a year or more ahead gives skills time to grow.
Starting from where your child is, the sessions build the skills ASET assesses, alongside their regular maths and English. Tutors focus on the question types your child finds hardest, with timed practice closer to the test.
Skills, not tricks. The test rewards reasoning and reading skills built over time.
Targeted practice. Tutors focus on exactly where your child needs it.
A positive experience. We build confidence as well as skills.
Our tutors get to know your child's current work: the strengths to build on and the gaps to close.
Sessions target the content, skills and question types your child will be assessed on, with practice in the format they'll sit.
You’ll see how your child is tracking through regular updates drawn from assessments, tutor observations and student feedback.
Tutors check in throughout each session, so when something is tricky your child gets extra help on the spot.

Questions about GATE preparation? Here are the ones families ask most. For anything else, your local centre is happy to help.
Students sit the Academic Selective Entrance Test (ASET) early in Year 6, for entry to Year 7. Registrations open in Year 5. Check the WA Department of Education website for this year’s dates.
Many families start in Year 4 or 5. Steady preparation builds the reasoning and reading skills the test rewards; last-minute cramming rarely does.
ASET assesses reading comprehension, communicating ideas in writing, quantitative reasoning and abstract reasoning. Our preparation covers all four.
No preparation can guarantee a place in a GATE program, and we will never promise one. What we can do is build the skills ASET assesses and help your child walk in calm, prepared and able to show what they know.
We meet your child where they are. Rather than building a separate personalised program, our tutors work with your child on the skills and question types the test covers, with practice under test conditions, so they walk in prepared and confident.
Membership is billed weekly with no lock-in contracts. You can cancel with just 2 weeks notice and pause at any time.
